The sitting service provides the opportunity for carers to go out for a few hours, safe in the knowledge that the person they care for has someone with them to provide care and attention.
Sitting service without personal care: -
This is currently being co-ordinated by Age Concern Hereford & Worcester or Carers Careline for the Redditch Area.
They will arrange to visit you to discuss the needs of both yourself and the person you care for. A volunteer “sitter” with then be matched to your needs, also taking into account when and how often a sit is required, so that there will be some continuity.
Carers ImageVoucher Scheme for sits which include personal care: -
Following a Carers Assessment if the person you care for has personal care needs, like help with toileting, feeding or taking medication; your social worker will refer you to the voucher scheme.
To use this service the cared for person must be: -
The service is available for up to 3 hours per week
Once vouchers become available, the Carers Unit will send them to you so you can then arrange your “sits” directly with the care agency. After you have contacted the agency, someone will visit you to discuss what is required and when.
The vouchers are valued in units of one hour. For each hour a worker sits with the person you care for, one voucher is given to the worker ie:

Two hour sit = two vouchers
Three hour sit = three vouchers
The agency then claims the monetary valve back from the Carers Unit.
NB Please note that this service does not include Housekeeping services or bathing/intimate physical care services.
This is a very popular service for Carers. There is a large demand for vouchers. Every effort is made to ensure that vouchers are allocated as soon as they become available. Currently however, demand outweighs the supply and we are continually monitoring and reviewing the service and carers who are receiving vouchers.
