Guide To Droitwich Spa
Salt is the link in every period of Droitwich Spa's history. The town has the rare distinction of offering Britain's only inland swimming pool with salt water - an entirely natural phenomenon. Droitwich Spa is built on an underground river of brine, which is ten times stronger than most seawater. It contains two and a half pounds of salt per gallon of water, which can only be rivalled by the Dead Sea's buoyancy. Therefore the unique Brine Baths are a must visit. Buildings from many periods still make Droitwich Spa a town of great charm and interest. The many medieval timber-framed buildings in the High Street and the Chateau Impney, former home of the 'Salt King' John Corbett; are today's testimony to the development of the town and its once thriving salt industry. Another must visit is the ornate Italianate church of the Sacred Heart which claims some of the finest mosaics in the country, depicting the life of the town's patron saint - Richard de Wych.
