Ceremony of Naming

Worcestershire County Council now offers the opportunity for all parents to welcome their child into society and to celebrate the name they have given him/her.

Ceremony and Venue

These ceremonies can take place at any Register Office or Approved Premise in the County of Worcestershire at a mutually convenient time. You do not have to live within the County to have one of our special ceremonies

There is a main outline ceremony which can be enhanced by your own personal readings

Form of Ceremony

Opening Words
Parents' promise to bring up child/children
Chosen friends' promises
Grandparents' promises (optional)
Naming of child and presentation of certificate (but please note this will have no legal status)
Closing Words

The ceremony will be performed by Registration Service personnel, although they will not be acting in their official capacity as Registrars.

Important Information

You cannot have any religious content in your ceremony
These ceremonies have no legal status and are purely celebratory
The Registration Service personnel will not be acting in their official capacity as Registrars.
The ceremony cannot be used to change a child's name

Certificates

A Commemorative Certificate will be presented (but please note this will have no legal status).

Where to get further advice

Telephone, visit or email any of the offices listed below to discuss and arrange your ceremony requirements. You will be required to produce the child's Birth Certificate to the Registration Service personnel at the time of booking your ceremony. You will then be offered and appointment to attend the office and discuss your individual requirements.

Fees

There is a fee payable for this service. Please contact your local register office for details. This fee will be payable at the time of booking the ceremony.
