Activities at Site
A temporary flume pipe has been installed so that the riverbed is dry ready for construction of the new structure.
BT have started work on the temporary diversion of their cables in order to make room for the new structure to be built.
The new structure will be of corrugated steel and steel plates, the steel has been ordered.
Activities at site
Work is continuing so that the site is made safe and tidied up. The vegetation has been removed following consultation with Worcestershire County Council’s Environmental Services Biodiversity officer ensuring that wildlife habitats were not disturbed.
Planning the Reconstruction
Date: week commencing 6 August 2007
The clean up will continue. Installation of a temporary diversion pipe for the stream should be complete by the end of the week. Halcrow, our designers, are continuing to work on a design for the new structure. We are continuing to keep the utility companies informed of progress.
Description of Damage
The existing road and culvert have been washed away resulting in 10 metres of missing roadway. The water services have been valved off either side of the road break and BT services are currently supported across the gap.
Activities at site
Make safe works by Worcestershire County Council’s partner contractor, Laser Civil Engineering commenced. They have secured the site and are starting to remove debris from the affected area. Some of this early response work include s tree surgeons removing a number of large trees made unstable when the ground fell away as well as removing loose material from the steep sides of the damaged area. Several utility services (telephones / electricity / gas etc) have services traversing the collapsed area and the relevant companies are being contacted to ensure these are maintained and secured during our works. A hydraulics study of the catchment area has been undertaken by Halcrow, Worcestershire County Council’s design consultants.
Preparing for Remedial Works
Halcrow have commenced work on a suitable design for replacement of the structure and associated highway repairs. The proposed solution will depend on many factors and these are currently being evaluated. Engineers are also surveying the site to ensure the correct solution is achieved. Once this evaluation is complete, a construction plan will be established.
