Local authorities with a responsibility for social services have the power to scrutinise their local NHS.
Worcestershire County Council has established a Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee to carry out this role. It comprises seven County Councillors and six District Councillors.
Additionally local NHS bodies have a duty to consult the Health Overview and Scrutiny Committee on any proposed substantial changes to local health services.
The County Council can delegate the health scrutiny power to District Councils in specific circumstances. This will be decided on an issue-by-issue basis.
