Emergency Back Up Plan

Have you ever thought about what would happen to someone you care about, if ever you were involved in a medical emergency or crisis?

Over the coming months, Adult and Community Services will be contacting all eligible carers and inviting them to complete a Contingency Plan which will guide the services as to what needs to happen in the event of an Carer Emergency.

The aim is to provide a clear understanding about the needs of the person you care for and what would need to happen if you were not there to provide your usual support. It will guide staff to support the person you care for, to maintain, as much as possible, their normal day-to-day routines.

It is envisaged that support would be available for a period of up to 48 hours and cover a 24 hour period during the Carer Emergency.

The plan will be located both in your carers’ assessment and the person you cared for information to ensure that access to it will be available.

Research has shown that one of the most worrying things for a carer is knowing what help is available in an emergency and how to access this help. A Contingency Plan will help to give you peace of mind that the person you care for will be offered the support they need during the emergency period.
