Civil Partnership

From December 2005, a partner means:

  • a person you are married to
  • have a civil partnership with
  • a person you live with as if you were their husband, wife or civil partner.

A civil partner is a formal arrangement that give same sex partners the same legal status as a married couple. For further information on Civil Partnerships can be found on the Directgov website.
