Economic regeneration

Droitwich Spa Canal project - Wychavon District Council in partnership with British Waterways, Worcestershire County Council and Droitwich Canals Trust have secured over £8m towards the restoration of the Droitwich Canals. This is in addition to the £1m contribution from each authority. Work on the restoration is now expected to begin in mid 2006.

The restoration project will enable a number of brownfield sites to come forward, which will bring upwards of 200 new jobs to the town. This will build upon the benefits delivered by the Council in attracting Waitrose to the town which has already seen 180 new jobs and an increase in rental values of retail premises in the town.

The Council is also considering reopening the Droitwich Lido, which will provide a seasonal attraction for visitors to the town. With the high levels of investment in new projects it is clear that Droitwich is enjoying a renaissance which looks set to continue as further development comes forward.
