Customers have commented "...we feel safer just knowing the wardens are their" and "...what a difference they have made, it's great to know we have someone we can go up and chat to".
The Community Neighbourhood Warden Scheme has proved so successful that our two wardens have now moved out of the towns of Evesham and Droitwich and are available to residents across the rest of the district.
That won’t be an easy task as there are over 100 villages to cover as well as three towns. We hope the problem has been solved by providing a vehicle for each warden to get around in. Thanks to these new vehicles, our wardens can now respond more quickly to issues that arise across the whole district.
The wardens, Trevor Clark and Frances Hayley, provide a vital link between residents and local service providers, including landlords, the police, district and town councils.
The wardens are a visible presence on the streets, providing reassurance and helping reduce anti-social behaviour, the fear of crime and crime itself.
Last year they helped to deliver 450 “safe and sound” security items free of charge to 140 vulnerable residents. Trevor and Frances also offer mediation and help with issues like fly-tipping, litter, graffiti and abandoned vehicles.
Wychavon District Council’s Community Safety Manager David Hemming said: “The Community Neighbourhood Warden Scheme has proved very successful and it now makes sense to let all residents receive the benefits the wardens can offer."
Community wardens are not a substitute for the police. They are an extra link between the local community, landlords, the district, town councils and the police. Their main aim is to help improve the environment by assisting agencies in reducing anti-social behaviour, the fear of crime and crime itself.
In a previous issue of The Wychavon Magazine, a day was spent with our Community Neighbourhood Warden Trevor Clark. The pictures below show how rich and varied a day in the life of a warden really is.
