We are responsible for removing fly tipping from public land and public highways, including verges, footpaths and bridleways.
If the waste blocks the road or presents an immediate hazard to traffic report it to the County Council Highways Department on 01386 565188.
Client Services are unable to deal with waste tipped on private land as it is the responsibility of the landowner. If it presents a health hazard it should be reported to our Environmental Health Department on the Environmental Crime hotline on 01386 565656 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday (answerphone after office hours). For more information visit the Environmental Services information page
Fly tipping is a criminal act. People caught illegally dumping waste can be fined up to £50,000 or face five years in prison.
We will investigate all incidents of flytipping and prosecute offenders where sufficient evidence is available.
If you see someone fly tipping write down as many relevant details as possible:
As well as ringing the Fly Tipping Hotline (details above) you can alternatively fill in our online Flytipping Reporting form.
Reported fly tipping would normally be cleared within 1 working day.
