Wychavon District Council no longer has any housing stock following a voluntary transfer in October 1994. The housing stock held at that time was transferred to two Housing Associations – Evesham and Pershore Housing Association in the south of the district (now known as Rooftop Housing Group) and Spa Housing Association in the north of the district (now part of the Festival Housing Group).
The Council maintains a Common Housing Register for applicants who are seeking social rented housing or low cost housing – via Shared Ownership or Homebuy schemes. At the time of stock transfer a Wychavon Housing Consortium was established and this includes a number of both local and national Housing Associations. This has the added value that applicants submit one application form to the Council and they can be considered for housing by all the Consortium partners with stock in their areas of choice.
The aim of the Common Housing Register is to facilitate the allocation of housing to applicants in the greatest need while trying to maintain sustainable communities. The Council also operates a Statutory Housing Register. Under the terms of the stock transfer agreement 50% of net voids after management moves and transfers are allocated to those on the Statutory Housing Register.
In May 2006 Wycahvon District Council along with its partner Housing Associations developed a Choice Based Lettings scheme, called Wychavon Home Choice, which gave a greater degree of choice for our customers.
Building on the sucess of Wychavon Home Choice scheme we have been working Sub Regionally with neighbouring Councils and Housing Associations to offer this service to more people, the new scheme is called Home Choice Plus.
