About Wychavon

Wychavon is known for its many outstanding features, such as the best asparagus in the world, the orchards in spring bloom, and the spa at Droitwich.  These make it an extremely attractive place to live and work, as well as popular with the many tourists who visit the area each year.

Local Industry and Employment

The main local industries are growers and food distribution, engineering and tourism together with major employers, household company names, international companies and numerous diverse small and medium sized employers.

Main Settlements:

Evesham
On a loop of the Avon, Evesham is a market town with a legacy of historic buildings, surrounded by The Vale of Evesham, an area of outstanding natural beauty and probably the most prolific horticultural region in the country.

Droitwich Spa
Part of the 'black and white' country and a Spa town with a unique Brine Spa. The area is mainly rural in character but has plenty of light industry which provides for a wide employment base throughout the district. These are mainly situated on five major industrial sites within the area, two of which are operated by Wychavon.

Pershore
Also on the Avon, Pershore retains all the atmosphere of a Georgian market town, although it is in fact much older and is dominated by the Abbey, all that remains of the large religious community destroyed at the time of the Reformation. In addition to these major towns the area has a wealth of outstanding villages, some 100 in total and rural areas, including the world famous Broadway. One of the features of the area is the high number of listed buildings.

Communications and Transport

Wychavon is near to Worcester, Redditch, Bromsgrove, Cheltenham and Stratford.  Slightly further afield are Birmingham, Oxford and Hereford.  The M5 runs through the district, giving the area superb links with the midlands motorway network (including the M42,M40 and M6) as well as Southern England and Wales.

Education and Health

There is a community hospital at Evesham, a new Hospital (funded by the District Council) at Pershore with the main hospital at Worcester and a private hospital at Droitwich.

The district contains primary schools in towns and villages, together with comprehensive schools - Droitwich High School, Evesham High School, Prince Henry's High School in Evesham and Pershore High School.  There are also colleges of horticulture, further and higher education. For younger children there is an increasing range of provision, including the crèche at the Civic Centre, which provides subsidised places for children of Wychavon employees (subject to availability).
