Taxi Handbook Consultation

Your chance to have a say about how we license taxis and the private hire trade in Wychavon

We have been working closely with our neighbouring authorities to produce similar guidelines and conditions for the Taxi and Private Hire trade.  As a result, the best of our guidance and policies has been incorporated into a “Taxi Handbook”, which will replace our existing policies and conditions.

Please do take time to read the document and let us know your feelings – good or bad!  

If you wish your comments/proposals to be considered by the committee they must be received by us in writing by 28 December 2008.

The full document and proposals will be considered for adoption at a committee meeting on 14 January 2009.

The document describes new procedures and requirements that would apply to both new applicants and existing licence holders. These changes include:

• introduction of enhanced vehicle checks at designated garage(s)
• driving assessments
• disability awareness and customer service training for drivers
• a more comprehensive “knowledge” test for hackney carriage driver applicants
• more regular checks of criminal records

Many of the changes are already in place across the County. Effectively we would be introducing a more “level playing field”.  We anticipate a period of “transition” to minimise impact on existing licence holders – except where, for example, driving tests will be required where complaints have been received about a driver’s ability.
