- Rather than buying expensive chemical fertilisers and compost, why not make your own by home composting?
You can get your own compost bin at a bargain price by calling 01905 766 833 or order online at the Waste Mission Impossible website
- Remember all your raw vegetable peelings, together with tea bags and sheets of newspaper can also go in the compost bin.

- Collect fallen leaves in a bin made from wooden stakes and chicken wire, put them in a black plastic bag or simply leave them in a pile – and they will turn into wonderful, nutritious leaf mould.
- Grass clippings can be left on the ground as a mulch, rather than throwing them away in your bin.
- Cut empty clear drinks bottles in half to use as mini cloches for seedlings.
- Use empty yoghurts pots, or paper egg cartons for seedlings.
- Use unwanted CDs and DVDs hung up to reflect the light and act as modern scarecrows.
- Rent or borrow equipment which you use infrequently. It may be possible to share items such as lawnmowers, shredders, hedge-trimmers with nearby friends or neighbours.
- Buy a packet of seeds and amaze yourself. Growing your own tomatoes or beans couldn’t be easier and you’ll save yourself a packet as well as having the freshest food imaginable!
