Biodiversity SPD adopted as Planning and Wildlife Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) and accompanying Sustainability Appraisal (SA)

The Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on ‘BIODIVERSITY’ was adopted, together with the accompanying Sustainability Appraisal (SA), under the new title of 'Planning and Wildlife' SPD. The Planning and Wildlife Supplementary Planning Document was adopted on 27th May 2008. In response to consultation received, the title was changed from Biodiversity SPD to Planning and Wildlife SPD in order to reflect the remit of the document more clearly and avoid unnecessary confusion. These documents are intended to provide guidance to developers, planners and members of the public on biodiversity issues across the district. In that context the Council’s key objectives for the SPD are to:

• ·Conserve, restore and enhance biological diversity within the district of Wychavon;
• ·Protect and improve wildlife corridors and stepping stones;
• ·Safeguard protected and priority species and habitats;
• ·Provide guidance for developers and planners on how to take account and incorporate biodiversity issues into developments of any scale;
• ·Promote the benefits of biodiversity.
