Mikron Theatre Company

37th National Summer & Waterways Tour 2008

2008 marked Mikron's 37th year of touring. During the summer, Mikron's four actor/musicians travelled the waterways on board our traditional narrowboat, Tyseley, and brought live theatre to canal and riverside venues, including pubs, village halls, and community centres.

Mikron is a little theatre company with a reputation for tackling large-scale subjects and turning history into vivid and dramatic entertainment. This years productions were no exception.

Below are the show details and performances that were supported by Wychavon District Council along with promoters comments

Debtonation

wdc-arts-mikron

A contemporary black comedy about the ever-present issue of Debt. There's a first world debt crisis.

Rod and Jane are up against it. Rod's business selling sock suspenders is not doing as well as could be hoped, Joy is addicted to Marks and Spencer's,and to cap it all - the dryers just exploded! Then there's Jo's ageing Auntie in the cellar: like their money problems she's always there, an embarrassing and unspoken presence.
Neither Joy nor Rod knows what the other is (or isnt) doing and things are only going to get worse.....

In the UK, personal debt amounts to over a trillion pounds and money owed exceeds the countrys GDP. When personal debt increases by a million every 4 minutes and 15% of 15-25yr olds think an ISA is an Ipod accesssory, where are we heading?

Only Mikron could bring song and humour to such trauma, resulting in a cracking story based around the words and testaments of people with first hand experience of debt.

Reap the dividends of Mikron Theatre Company's insight into the Co-operative Movement - From its roots in the early part of the 19th Century when the Industriak Revolution resulted in exploitation and misery for many working people.

Did it all begin at Toad Lane in Rochdale in 1844? We shall wander down the aisles of history to bring you the true story, told, of course, with a mixture of music, humour and sadness.
