The Heritage Lottery Fund have announced that a £257,000 grant has been earmarked under the Townscape Heritage Initiative to continue the conservation led regeneration of the Port Street and Waterside area of Evesham.
The District Council and other agencies will also be allocating funds to this project which will see the repair and restoration of a further 20 or so historic properties in this part of the town which was badly affected by the floods in July 2007.
The project will also look to address the continuing deterioration of the Regal Cinema which is seen as central to the wider regeneration of this area.
The next stage will be to develop the project in partnership with the Local Strategic Partnership and property owners and tenants and undertake a detailed condition survey of the targeted historic properties.

Our HERS for the regeneration of Port Street in the Evesham Conservation Area will finally be finished in March 2008. The successful Heritage Economic Regeneration Scheme has been jointly funded with Advantage West Midlands and English Heritage.
Allocation of grants for repairs to buildings ended in March 2006. properties did not have to be listed to be considered for a grant but the emphasis was on a high standard of work using traditional methods and materials. Grants were allocated throughout Port Street and Waterside and work has been completed on many properties including Rilys Bar and Restaurant (see below) the final projects will be completed in a few months time.
The recent floods were a set back just as the last few projects were being completed but use of traditional methods and materials for the work has proved to be justified as HERS works have survived in tact and in good condition.
