Under the new system residents will receive the following collections:
Week 1 - recycling– green wheelie bin (1100 mm high, 580 mm wide, 740 mm deep)
Week 2 - non-recycling – grey wheelie bin (1070 mm high, 480 mm wide, 730 mm deep)
Each Week: A kitchen waste bin (353mm high, 295 mm wide, 340 mm deep)
During consultation residents told us that they wanted a weekly food waste collection due to worries over smells and flies in the summer. However, due to the significant cost of composting the food waste we can only compost food waste on the week that we collect your recycling green bin in a specialist vehicle. The week your non-recycling grey bin is collected the same vehicle will take your food waste and it will be sent to landfill, as currently happens.
You may need to get in touch with us if any of the issues mentioned below apply to you.
There will be a small number of properties that will be exempt from using wheelie bins. These properties will have the same items collected but with sacks for recycling and refuse, a box for glass and a food waste bin.
Exemptions may apply if a property has any of the following:
Week 1 - Refuse Sacks (maximum of 2), Clear Recycling Sacks (No limit), Food Waste Bin and Glass Box
Week 2 - Refuse Sacks (maximum of 2) and Food Waste Bin
For those who are physically unable to put out their own bin, sack or box and need assistance with their collection please let us know. Collections will be from an agreed place.
If you have access problems or generate less waste a smaller bin may be more suitable for you. Smaller wheelie bins are available to anyone who requests them for recycling, refuse or both.
The smaller bins measure 1065mm high, 480mm wide and 560mm deep.
To apply for an exemption to the wheelie bin scheme, an assisted collection or a different size recycling or refuse bin, please complete the tear off strip on your leaflet when you receive it and return it to us freepost. Once this has been received a site visit may be arranged and we will get in touch with you to tell you the outcome.
