Frequently Asked Questions

Is the service available to all households?
At the moment the scheme is limited to 7,500 wheelie bins on a first come, first served basis. There are some geographical limitations, go to www.wychavon.gov.uk/mylocalarea or call 01386 565005 Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm to find out more. However, if you are not successful immediately, you can be added to the waiting list.

When will the service start?
The bins will be delivered late February/March and will be emptied once a fortnight starting w/c 31st March 2008.  We will notify you of your collection day, which may not be the same day as your refuse collection.

Can I have more than one bin?
Yes, as long as the service is still available and you pay the annual charge for the collection service of each bin.

Can I have a refund if I wish to stop the collection service during the year?
Refunds will only be made for unused full years. No part year refunds.

What happens if I move house?
If you move within the Wychavon District you can change the collection to your new address.  If you move out of the District, call us to collect the bin (it is council property) or let the new occupier use it for the rest of the year.

I don’t need such a large bin, can I share one with my neighbour?
Yes, as long as we can collect from the same property each fortnight and payment is taken from that one property.

Can I have an assisted collection?
For households on an assisted collection scheme, we will also collect the brown bin.  If you are not on the list, but you are physically unable to put the bin out, please call 01386 565005 Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm to discuss.

Can I still use the old brown garden waste disposal sacks?
Only until the end of September 2008 when this service will cease, so please use up any sacks you have by then, as we will not provide refunds.

Why do I have to pay for this service?
Since many residents already home compost or do not have a garden, we are charging only those who want the service rather than everyone having to pay through Council Tax.

Can I put kitchen waste in the garden bin?
No, kitchen waste can only go in the black sack waste.  Wychavon will be introducing a new food waste service for all homes from Autumn 2008 to Spring 2009. More details will be provided nearer the time.
